The Ladies Committee of the Italian Cultural Centre of Durham (ICCD) hosted their third annual Moda and Cappuccino Fashion Show to benefit The Oshawa Hospital Foundation for The Heather Griffith Breast Assessment Centre on April 20.
There were fashions by Melanie Lyne, Churchills-Crossings and Kidz Couture featuring casual, business, evening and prom wear. Additionally, there was food, cocktails and raffle and door prizes at the event at the Oshawa Italian Recreation Club. The fashion show was created in 2010 as a way to honour the victims and celebrate the survivors of breast cancer.
“If you know anyone fighting breast cancer – and sadly, most of us do – then you’ve witnessed their strength and tenacity and courageous involvement in the fight to end the disease,” said Mary Sirizzotti, one of the women of ICCD who made the fashion show happen, “That’s why the ladies at Italian Cultural Centre are committed to an annual fashion show – we want to join the fight and become part of the cure.”
The Heather Griffiths Breast Assessment Centre is a year old facility at Lakeridge Health Oshawa that brings a range of breast cancer services – from mammography and ultrasound to biopsy and patient support. The centre is named after Heather Griffith, a local breast cancer survivor, in recognition of her tireless work to raise money for breast cancer care.
“All these little events like today all make a difference and all contributed to the Breast Assessment Centre, so nothing is going to stop us – they’re [ICCD] going to keep going, they got the community support here,” said Griffith. “I am very happy to witness this event on an annual basis now.”
