RMG hosts first back-to-school party

The Robert McLaughlin Gallery brought their monthly party back inside for a back-to-school themed First Fridays on September 2.
With a cash bar and stage area, the gallery’s atrium was once again transformed into a free musical venue with a new exhibit, Sympathetic Hunting Magic opening the same night. The exhibit features sculpture from Niall Donaghy and Shelly Rahme and will be at the gallery until October 30.

It’s not just the school year looming around the corner that provided the theme though. Oshawa’s Robert Aldsworth’s Photo World was there with vintage school-photo backdrops. For $2 anyone could pose and get a 4×6 print made on the spot. Half the proceeds went to supporting First Fridays.
Stereo Moon opened the evening of entertainment with an acoustic guitar, keyboard and organ before Volcano Playground took the stage with an eclectic, experimental sound. That difference in sound and genre is what organizer Norah O’Donnell says they strive to do each First Fridays.

“Stereo Moon have been a great supporters of the gallery and First Fridays as they’ve attended quite a few,” said O’Donnell. “It’s great to give back to them and support them as they’ve supported us.”
