Ready, set, roll.
Cars driven by kids flew down Bond Street on Aug. 19 as the 12th annual Soap Box Derby hit the road. The Lions Club of North Oshawa and the Motor City Car Club organize the popular event as a prelude to Autofest, which runs from Aug. 24 to 26 this year.
Participants from all divisions (hobby street, hobby pro, stock, super stock, master and spec) were cheered on from the sidelines as they raced down Bond Street, between Centre and Arena. This was the most successful year yet for the derby, with 53 racers participating.
“The Oshawa race is always so great, well organized and has lots of spectators,” said Serge Bouthillette, president of the Canadian Soap Box Racing Association.
The 19th annual Autofest starts on Friday with the Downtown Oshawa Kickoff Party, followed by events at Lakeview Park on Saturday and Sunday.
