If you’re looking for some free entertainment, the Durham Region Comedy Festival is hosting an open mic comedy night on Thursday, Feb. 17 at The Thirsty Monk in Oshawa. An open mic night is taking place each month, leading up to the festival in September.

The Thirsty Monk is located at 21 Celina St. in Oshawa.

Rich Weisz, president of the comedy festival says he chose to hold this large event after attending a festival in Toronto last summer where he met comedian Brad Garrett. This inspired Weisz to bring some global comedians to the Oshawa and Whitby area.
Weisz planned the festival for September as it will tie in with the Toronto International Film Festival and he hopes to attract some tourists and even actors into Oshawa and Whitby.
Make-A-Wish Canada is partnered with the festival and Weisz says the goal is to raise between $25,000 to $50,000.
Following Thursday’s open mic event at The Thirsty Monk, the next event will be held at The Green Bottle on 145 King St. W in Oshawa on Friday, March 11. Further information is available from the Durham Region Comedy Festival’s website at drcf.ca
