An idea to capture the work of featured artists in a cluster of art shows held in downtown Oshawa has turned into an exciting new print project, SlowCity Magazine.
Founder of the project, Will McGuirk was inspired to create this magazine from the overwhelming amount of talent in Oshawa. This exciting project is being well received by the creative community as the third issue of SlowCity Magazine is about to be released.
Some of the work being featured in the next issue of SlowCity Magazine will come alive at the “Occupy Wall Space” event at Bola! on Dec. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Bola! will be overflowing with talent tomorrow with an amalgamation of creative minds all sharing their flair for the arts under one roof. Talented artist Monique Brent, manager of Bola! will be displaying her art, Geordie Lishman and his student’s artwork will be displayed and poets Allison Warne and Sally Watts will be sharing their literary works of art.
On that same evening SlowCity will be hosting their launcn party on the upper level of Bola! that will feature photojournalist Mike Berube who’s photography can be seen in Newsweek and the New York Times. This exhibition will be shown alongside another gifted local photographer Stephanie Foden, who is also the DON’s managing editor.
There is an overall good feeling about this event with many local businesses and arts community pitching in the help make this event a successful one. Kerri King, Manager of Durham Tourism, and Jacquie Severs of the RMG offered to help by providing tables and chairs, Isabella’s café is donating coffee for the evening and many other artists and business owners in the downtown core are not only supporting this event but contributing to it in many ways.
For more information check out SlowCity magazine’s facebook page or go to the event for a great evening of creative minds occupying the walls of Bola!.
