It’s only been a year since she first started her business, but things are certainly beginning to pop into place for Sara Boville, owner of the Great Canadian Popcorn Company.
Situated in downtown Oshawa, this new and already popular venue officially opened its doors to the public with a grand opening ceremony on Tuesday. Boville decided to create her own business after she noticed the popularity of popcorn stands in America.
“There are stands on every corner in cities like New York and Chicago,” she said. “So I thought I would try to bring it over to Canada. It’s a wonderful and creative market because there are a thousand ways to make popcorn.”
Boville said the process of starting up The Great Canadian Popcorn Company was strenuous.
“It was a matter of finding the perfect location, renovating and cost,” she said. “But it was very satisfying to see the shelves and paint go on the walls. Business is steadily picking up and I’m excited to see what happens in the future.”
What’s the shop owner’s favourite flavour? Boville says she’s got a sweet spot for barbeque.
“I’m a huge fan of smoked meat and I’d recommend this flavour to all meat-lovers,” she said. “There’s also a large bacon demand in the city of Oshawa. Bacon cheddar and hickory bacon are popular choices. And you can never go wrong with traditional kettle corn.”
