This downtown Oshawa eatery has five stools, an authentic Montreal cuisine selection and recognition from the National Post.
Montreal Steamés and Deli is located on the corner of Simcoe and Bond Streets. This is the perfect spot to catch a bite before hopping on the bus or to simply stop and take a break from shopping downtown.
The menu offers a true-to-Montreal classic poutine, a variety of specialty fries including the choice to go spicy, sandwiches and the ever popular steamés (a steamed hot dog native to Montreal and craved and judged by those everywhere). All the food is imported from Quebec and cooked with authenticity. As a happy bonus for vegetarians, the poutine contains no meat products.

Wellsley Veira is the friendly face of the six-year-old business with a laidback vibe. He smiles and points to his hat which has his nickname stitched into it. “Everyone calls me Wes,” he chuckles.
A Saint Vincent clock hangs in the shop, as does a Saint Vincent and the Grenadines sticker. Veira is from the volcanic island in the Caribbean Sea off the shores of Venezuela, moving to Canada in 1979.
Veira takes pride in his restaurant, “Its genuine smoked meat,” he says as he begins to list everything on the menu, “Everything is authentic and imported from Quebec.”
Customer Tyler Richards’ favourite dish is the New Orleans Fries. The Durham College students says he appreciates both the good food and the passion of the owner. “The guy obviously loves what he does and it shows in the food he is making.”
