Whether it’s shopping, dining, or socializing downtown Oshawa has it all.
Home to the main campuses of Durham College and UOIT, Oshawa is in the heart of student life. It’s a place filled with many students living or commuting and living on a budget.  There are many dining, shopping, or services that offer students a discount here in downtown Oshawa.

Art Affairs located on 27 King Street East, have been offering students a ten per cent discount for 30 years. “The students benefit most from this. Students have a tight budget so every little saving counts,” said an Art Affairs employee.
Wyld Star located on 19 Simcoe Street South has also been offering students a ten per cent discount. “One of the people from the downtown board came in and asked us to participate,” said employee Shawn Solomon. This store has a wide selection of comic books, action figures, and anime DVDs. “Most of the time I have to ask people if they are a student so they can receive the discount,” continued Solomon.
Stag’s Head Bar and Grill located on 22 Bond Street East stopped offering the student discount about a year ago. Employee Robyn Ewington said the discount didn’t increase the amount of business they normally had. “We do get a lot of students, but generally they come in when we have deals on such as 25 cent perogies or 35 cent wings.”
Despite the list of 41 participating downtown businesses that offer discounts, many students don’t take advantages of their potential savings or aren’t aware of them.
If you’re a student and interested in finding out where you can grab a deal check out Durham Colleges/UOIT’s student association website for a full list of eligible places.
